The competitive advantages have been a result of efforts articulated by a strategic plan based on the continual innovation of processes and products. Using a technology management model that is supported by a strong program for academic-industrial connections, promoting modernization and impelling research at a national level is sought through agreements with researchers, the development of providers, and the improvement of production processes.

The technology plan involves the development of new products through the use of recombinant DNA technology, with the teamwork of researchers from the Biotechnology Institute of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

In addition, the Bioclon Institute's technology plan has been implemented through a financing strategy that combines the Institute's own investments with resources from governmental institutions through agreements with:
-
The National Science and Technology Board (El Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología) (México) |
-
The Commerce Secretary (La Secretaría de Economía) (México) |
-
The Food and Drug Administration (United States) |
|

For the development of new products, the Institute works with laboratories and institutions in Morelos (Morelos State University), Nuevo León (University of Nuevo León), and Veracruz (Octolab); and on an international level, with France (Research Development Institute (Institute de la Recherche pour le Developement)) and the United States (Arizona University, Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center, Denver,CO).

The Bioclon Institute invested 23.4% of its sales in research and development in 2004, which is a model for the Mexican pharmaceutical industry.

Antivenoms manufactured by Bioclon are not only differentiated by quality and price, but also for being free of all viral load and for production processes that have generated significant improvements ¾ being more flexible and economical than those made by competitors as a result of not requiring refrigeration.

These competitive advantages have been achieved through the development of a strategic plan that includes the identification of market niches based on high value-added products; hence, the definition of the technology plan. |

As for recognition for their scientific and technological efforts, the Bioclon Institute belongs to the Registro Nacional de Instituciones y Empresas Científicas y Tecnológicas (RENIECYT) (National Registry of National Scientific and Technological Institutions and Companies) (registration number No. 2004/978) granted by the CONACYT. Such recognition is given only to those companies that demonstrate their human and technological ability to conduct research and development, as well as a continual renovation and updating of their infrastructure for the purpose of technological progress ¾ contributing to the Bioclon Institute receiving the 2005 National Technology Award for their Technology Management model.

The Bioclon Institute's prestige among the medical field's diverse public and private health institutions, as well as nationally and worldwide, is a result of their ability to capitalize on the opportunities presented by the market ¾ thanks to their technology, their collaboration with institutions and companies, and their permanent vigilance of the scientific, technological, and competitive environment for the purpose of process innovation and the continual improvement of products that satisfy market needs, always looking to surpass expectations with useful, safe, and high quality products.

Bioclon Institute's competitive strategy is based on product innovation, the continual improvement of manufacturing practices, a comprehensive fulfillment of regulations, and the development of international markets. It is evident that this strategy's success depends on the capacity to develop, adopt, and assimilate advanced product, equipment, process, operational, and organizational technologies.
